I. Who can upgrade?
After model year 2021 A3 A4L A5 A6L A7 A8L Q3 Q5L Q7 Q8 e-tron S3 S4 S5 RS3 RS4 RS5 RSQ5
2023 and earlier models (excluding 2024 models):
B9 models (e.g. A4/A5/Q5) → upgradeable P4398
C8 models (e.g. A6/A7/A8/Q7/Q8) → upgradeable P4397
2024 models and above:
Don’t touch this version of firmware! With SFD2 lock, wait for the exclusive new version P4851/P4853 (coming soon)!
Prerequisites for upgrading (emphasis added!)
1. Cars that have been upgraded with 4420 firmware:
Must downgrade first!
B9 downgrade 3874 → upgrade 4398
C8 down 3875 → up 4397
2. cars that have never upgraded 4420:
As long as the current version is lower than 387x → you can upgrade 4397/4398 directly.
What are the changes after the new firmware upgrade?

H26 box owners should not upgrade!
After upgrading may be stuck in the boot interface! This version of the firmware is exclusively for H54! (H26 users, hold on tightly, don’t be cheap)
Upgrade steps
1. Check the version number:
Settings→System Information→Confirm the current version (below 387x? 4420?)
2. Prepare a USB flash drive:
Format it as FAT32
Download the corresponding firmware (4398 for B9, 4397 for C8).
Unzip the firmware and put it in the root directory of the USB flash drive.
3. Open the brush!
Vehicle power on (the engine can be turned off, but make sure the power is sufficient!)
Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port of the vehicle → system auto-detection → confirm upgrade → wait for 20 minutes.
Don’t turn off the power in the middle of the upgrade! Don’t open the door!
WARNING
H26 box owners: upgrade 4397/4398 = may turn into a brick!
2024+ owners: don’t try! Wait for exclusive firmware P4851/P4853!
Lastly
Older models + H54 box → Close your eyes and flush! CarPlay arrows + HUD really smells good!
H26 box/new model → Squatting follow-up! The price of itchy hands may be bricks!
